We support entrepreneurs and technology crusaders: DRDO chairman
Students should evolve into technology developers from being technology followers, said Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman G. Satheesh Reddy.
Delivering the 22nd Convocation address at Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalya, Enathur, on Sunday, he said that despite the achievements the country had made in space and missile technologies, it remained a technology follower.
‘Encourage research’
“We have not developed any technology but mastered the technological aspects we received through technology transfer pattern of agreements,” he pointed out.
To be among the technology developers in the world, deep-rooted research programmes should be encouraged at the university level, he said.
Stating that several supporting schemes such as ‘Start-Up India’ and ‘Make in India’ had been launched by the Centre for innovation and technological advancements, he said support was extended by the DRDO to entrepreneurs and technology crusaders.
“It is heartening to note that IITs have conceived hundreds of start-ups,” he said.
More than 500 industries were working with DRDO in its projects, he added.
The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetathipathi, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, the Chancellor, SCSVMV, S. Jayarama Reddy and others participated.
