Tofany Entertainment plans play sequel in Albany

ALBANY — When Torry and Tiffany Jackson of Camilla brought their play — “When Loving You Hurts Me” — to Albany, Torry Jackson said he didn’t anticipate audience members asking the couple for a sequel.

“We sold a little over 400 tickets,” Jackson said. “It was more than we expected because it was our first time coming to Albany, a new area. … (The reaction) was amazing. Everyone loved it; they were just blown away because it was a very professional production. The response was overwhelming. Even after the show, people were waiting and wanting to see part two, so that’s the reason we’re bringing it back so quickly.”
Jackson said “When Loving You Hurts Me 2” will pick up where the first play left off.
“Janell is married now to a man that loves her,” the playwright said. “Stacey is back on top of her career and has a new love. Dexter’s doing well and is set to finish college, and something happens that really turns everybody’s lives upside down. We don’t know whether this family is going to be able to pick up the pieces to move on. That’s something the audience will have to come and see for themselves.”
While Jackson said the first play focused on how cumbersome, hurtful and painful relationships can be, he said the sequel will also focus on “the instability that unhealthy relationships can cause.”
“It’s going to really shed light on the mental illness aspect, and how far some people can be deranged, delusional, crazy, and (how) they’ll just go to get revenge,” he said. “But there is help. We can be so broken, but in the end, there is hope even for that person that may find themselves in that situation. You’re not too far gone; you can get the adequate help that you need.”
Most of the cast will reprise their roles from the first play. However, James Turner is a new addition to the production. He will portray Mark. The Albany-based G&S Experience ensemble band will return to provide live music.
There will be only one showing of “When Loving You Hurts Me 2” on Dec. 9. The show will start at 6 p.m. at the Albany Municipal Auditorium, located at 200 N. Jackson St. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 on the show day and already available at the Albany Civic Center box office.
