Wimbledon: Tsitsipas, Zverev, Osaka stunned; Djokovic sails through

The opening day of the Wimbledon 2019 proved to be heart-breaking for sixth-seeded German Alexander Zverev and seventh-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas, as they suffered shock defeats.
Greek sensation Tsitsipas was beaten 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-7(8) 6-3 by Italian Thomas Fabbiano, while Zverev suffered a 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5 loss to Czech qualifier Jiri Vesely.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic got the better of Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets. In the presence of new coach Goran Ivanisevic, the Serbian, after some initial hiccups, won 6-3 7-5 6-3. Swiss Stan Wawrinka wasted no time, as he powered past qualifier Ruben Bemelmans 6-3 6-2 6-2.
Ivo Karlovic, the oldest man to compete in the singles event since Ken Rosewall in 1975, eased past Italy's Andrea Arnaboldi 6-4 6-4 7-6(4). The 40-year-old fired 21 aces and 50 winners in the match.
2018 runner-up Kevin Anderson easing into the second round with a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
In women's singles, Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva stunned second seed Naomi Osaka 7-6(4) 6-2 to advance to the second round. The 24-year-old beat Japan's Osaka in straight sets in Birmingham last month. Simona Halep shook off an injury early in her opener and won five games in a row in the second set to overcome Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 7-5.
Madison Keys, seeded 17th, made short work of Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum winning 6-3 6-2 to reach the second round while Elina Svitolina handed Australia's Daria Gavrilova a 7-5 6-0 defeat.
